About the event

Where did the City of Reidsville get its name? Reuben Reid and his family settled in the area in 1814, and later in 1829, would secure a local post office they called Reidsville. Reuben's son, David Settle Reid, pictured above, became the area's first Postmaster at age 16.

He would go on to be a State Senator, U.S. Congressman, the 32nd Governor and later a U.S. Senator. Reid spent the last 10 years of his life in the home his son, Thomas Reid, built that has become known as the Governor Reid House. First purchased by the Reidsville Historic Properties Commission, the house is now owned and maintained by the City. The house will be open several times throughout the year.
