The "Revitalize Reidsville" initiative is a collaborative downtown economic development campaign aimed at uniting our community, setting aside past differences, and focusing on a shared vision for a better future. This plan is not just about the physical revitalization of our city—it’s about reimagining Reidsville as a place where every citizen, business owner, and visitor feels pride in the progress we make together.
This campaign invites every stakeholder to come together for what we all want: more shopping options, diverse restaurants, exciting entertainment choices, and better living spaces. The city will take ownership of the challenges that have held us back in the past, ensuring accountability, enforcing ordinances fairly, and fostering a spirit of inclusivity for all residents. No longer will favoritism or bias impede our progress; we are committed to making Reidsville a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
The vision for "Revitalize Reidsville" is clear: We will work with property owners to help rehab and repurpose deteriorating buildings, bring life back to vacant spaces, and actively engage property owners who have been absent from the revitalization efforts. We will champion the potential of upper-floor living to bring more residents to our downtown core, and we will hold property owners accountable for neglected, vacant properties, ensuring they take action to transform the properties into vibrant, active spaces.
This revitalization effort will require a collective effort. City leaders, businesses, property owners, and residents must all work together to make this vision a reality. The Reidsville City Council and city departments have listened closely to the concerns of our community and are deeply committed to seeing this campaign through. We have heard your voices, and the "Revitalize Reidsville" campaign is built on your feedback. Over the next 12 to 24 months, we will focus on transformation that empowers change, sparks growth, and fosters unity.
We believe that by focusing on what matters most to our citizens, we can create a thriving, vibrant downtown that attracts new businesses, new residents, and more visitors. Together, we will turn Reidsville into a community that we are all proud to call home.

Downtown Beautification Days
-
“Reidsville Refresh” Cleanup Days: An organized community cleanup and planting event focused on the beautification of downtown (litter pickup, murals, flower beds or planters, design our next flag poles challenge etc.). One in Spring and Fall, dates TBD.
-
Vacant-to-Vibrant Storefront Displays: We are working with building owners to identify vacant storefront windows that we can decorate. We will form teams to assist in simple rehabs like cleaning, painting, or staging spaces in long-vacant buildings in coordination with property owners. As we get agreement from property owners, we will announce it in the newsletter.
Arts & Culture Engagement
-
Public Art Volunteer Committee: We will partner with local artists, students, and residents to help design and install creative crosswalks or murals that tell the story of Reidsville. As we identify mural opportunities, we will announce these opportunities.
-
Local History + Storytelling Project: Do you love history? Do you love to share stories with others? This might be the perfect fit for you. We are looking to recruit volunteers to interview long-time residents and create a digital or physical walking tour of Reidsville’s legacy. We will also be working with Historic Preservation to coordinate a video tour complete with period-appropriate costumes.
Community Ambassadors & Advocacy
-
Neighborhood Connector Program: Volunteers will be trained as “Revitalize Reidsville Ambassadors” to communicate campaign updates, gather feedback, and connect their neighbors with resources. We will work to connect you with possible property owners or business owners to offer a friendly face and learn more about how we can help with their property or business.
-
Youth Voice Council: We want to see our Reidsville Youth Thrive! We are looking to engage high school and college-age volunteers in civic leadership and downtown advocacy, including planning pop-up events and social media campaigns. We are forming a youth vision council where they can also work alongside City Staff and hold mock council meetings and learn about planning and community development.
Skills-Based Volunteering
-
Professional Services Exchange: Do you have a skill or craft you would like to volunteer? We are creating a platform where volunteers (contractors, designers, realtors, marketers) can donate time and expertise to support revitalization projects. For example, realtors may volunteer free value assessments for vacant building owners about sales and rental prices. Builders/contractors may volunteer time to take down old signs or awnings, Designers may volunteer layout or interior paint color ideas, etc.
-
Small Business Mentorship Circles: We want to connect experienced entrepreneurs with new or aspiring downtown business owners through a volunteer mentoring network. We want to help our businesses thrive downtown and provide a resource for them to connect with for questions and guidance.
Transparent Communication & Ownership
-
Interactive “Idea Wall” Installations: Throughout the year, we will have whiteboard kiosks downtown where passersby can write what they’d like to see in the city, sparking ownership and creative thinking.
-
Volunteer Recognition Program: We will be recognizing volunteers who are making a difference as “Revitalize Reidsville Champions” spotlight in the newsletter and on social media.
